Hey everybody! The name's Ripzaw - you may remember me from such diaries as Help a MyDDer get a job with Jerry McNerney. I'm pleased to report that the project continues apace, no doubt helped by mentions on the blogs of Democracy for America and The Contra Costa Times. But, campaigns stop for no man, and so here I am, still pounding the digital pavement. Now, if you'll walk with me for a moment, I've got a proposition you can't pass up.
Thanks all for your fantastic response to yesterday's McNerney thread. Not that I would pretend to take credit for it, but in the hours after it was posted, Jerry McNerney catapulted from #3 to #1 in the Democracy for America Grassroots All-Star rankings. Since then, the top spot has flipped between Jerry McNerney and Nancy Skinner, both deserving candidates possessed of unquestionable true-blue credentials. The endorsement, however, can only go to one. The question we have to ask, then, is who can put DFA's resources to better use? No matter how I slice it, the answer to that question always comes down to Jerry McNerney. The two big reasons are on the flip.

OK, so likely everyone on here knows Rick Pombo, esteemed Republican chairman of the House Natural Resources Committee. Rick Pombo is a caricature of a Republican. He's Tom DeLay without the brains. He's a corporate whore in the worst way and up to his eyeballs in money from guys who are now in prison. On top of that, when he does take a principled stand, it's usually on the "principle" of repealing the Endangered Species Act, the end to which he has devoted his congressional career. Even the sane wing of the GOP hates him - Pete McCloskey, a Republican congressman who retired in 1980, got so fed up with Pombo's shenanigans that he came out of retirement to run against Pombo in the Republican primary, and took over a third of the district's Republican votes. Running against Pombo is wind energy expert Jerry McNerney. I could read off the standard litany of progressive issue positions McNerney espouses, but I'll just point you to his words on the subjects and say that I'm pretty well satisfied. I want to go to work for the Jerry McNerney campaign, and that's where I need your help.
